Grammar Series, No. 2: Is it “It’s” or “Its”?

Is it "it's" or "its"?

  • "It's" is a contraction for "it is" or "it has", as in "It's a spectacular day for my chickens!"

  • "Its" refers to a possession of a thing and is used much like you use "his" or "her", as in "The chick cracked the eggshell with its beak."
